Independent gets dumped shock horror probe!

Email to The Independent dumping them after more than a decade of regular readership.

With considerable sadness, I have today cancelled my regular order for The Independent.

Over the last few months it has become increasingly negative; moaning and whining about almost everything. The Olympics, HS2, banking reform, anything with a penis and many other areas of life are reported with a cynicism and negativity that never used to be taken.

This is very sad, because The Independent used to be a beacon of caring and forward-looking reporting. It used to campaign on major issues with a view to improving people’s lives and set standards for others to follow.

Now it seems far more interested in following the mindless tabloid herd with an outlook that is very negative, bordering on destructive. Your approach to gender equality is especially negative, and does more harm than good in that area. Your columnists (with the notable exception of MA Seighart who is consistently excellent) are strident to the point where their credibility disappears in their white heat of righteous indignation.

The whole sorry mess just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth in the mornings now, so I have decided to end it.

Just a quick note – I have killed off my LinkedIn account, as it’s of no use any more. Anyone wanting to offer me a six-figure salary to “do stuff” can contact me here or via my Facebook page. Yeah. Right…

BAFTA Rising Stars All-male Shortlst

Rant at the Independent for their headlining of a snotty little piece about the three-person shortlist for the BAFTA award for rising star being all male as “BAFTA snubs women”. As the Independent feministas rule the paper with a rod of iron, it won’t get published.

Oh for God’s sake, will you get a grip! Not everything that happens to be positive for men has to be negative for women! Nobody is “snubbing women” as your headline suggests and your constant and deliberate misinterpretation of such events is becoming very tiresome.

A shortlist of three people has a significant chance of being mono-gender. Would you be headlining a list that happened to be all-female as “snubbing men”, I wonder? We both know the answer to that.

Grow up!

Tedious Stephen Lawrence Coverage

Missive at The Independent after multiple-page coverage of the topic in their Sunday. They won’t publish it, of course, same as them never publishing anything questioning their other blinkered campaign, feminism. But at least they’ll read it…

I am a firm believer in equality of all kinds – not least of all because I’m gay, but am I allowed to say that I find the entire Stephen Lawrence fuss incredibly tedious, self-righteous and irritating?

From all the politically-correct media coverage you would have thought that a new messiah had been killed 18 years ago. It was just a murder then and it’s just a murder now. It was a crime and a rather botched investigation, but no more important a murder than the hundreds of others that happened the same year.

The whole media circus, and the accompanying chorus of professional mourners is getting very very boring, almost to McCann levels of tedium.
